Sustainability Open Innovation Challenge
7th Edition
The seventh edition of SOIC brought together leading corporates, startups and innovators from around the world to co-develop practical and scalable solutions for a more sustainable future.
The programme featured 27 corporate challenge statement owners seeking innovative solutions across five key themes: Renewable Energy, Offshore Wind, Greener Industries, Sustainable Agrifood, and Sustainable Materials. Through these challenges, innovators had the opportunity to address pressing industry needs while working directly with corporate partners to test, validate, and scale their solutions.
The programme comprised two key tracks:
Main Track
Featured defined sustainability challenges from participating corporates, supported by opportunities for pilot funding and in-kind support.
Discovery Track
Sought novel and emerging technologies with the potential for longer-term collaboration, market access, and further support through SOIC’s partner programmes.
Innovators whose solutions did not directly address a listed challenge statement could also participate through an Open Submission.
The seventh edition of SOIC garnered over 1,200 complete submissions from over 100 countries.
Across the seventh edition, more than S$3 million in pilot commitment and funding support was made available to innovators, alongside opportunities for paid pilots, co-innovation, mentorship and industry networking. This included a S$100,000 prize from Hexagon Group for a selected innovator under the Discovery Track, as well as pathways to partner programmes including The Liveability Challenge (TLC), Catalytic Capital for Climate and Health (C3H), and the Amplifier Mentorship Programme.
Together, these opportunities enable promising sustainability technologies to move beyond ideas and into real-world collaboration, creating pathways for solutions to be tested, developed, and scaled with industry.

Programme Flow
Matched Startups
Through SOIC 7th Edition, participating solution providers submitted innovative solutions addressing sustainability challenges identified by corporate Challenge Statement Owners (CSOs).
The CSOs shortlisted promising solution providers based on the relevance and potential of their solutions to address specific challenge statements. Shortlisted solution providers were then invited to virtual one-on-one meetings with the respective CSOs, where they presented their technologies, elaborated on their proposed solutions, and explored potential areas for collaboration.
Following these discussions, CSOs selected solution providers with whom they wished to pursue further collaboration through proof-of-concept (POC) development or pilot projects. The following is an overview of these matched solution providers:

Thermalytica Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. is the Singapore subsidiary of Japan-based Thermalytica Inc., specialising in advanced thermal insulation materials and energy-efficient solutions. Established in 2021, Thermalytica commercialises materials technology developed by Japan’s National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS).
Its flagship product, TIISA®, is a proprietary nano-engineered silica aerogel with ultra-low thermal conductivity, offering lightweight, durable, and cost-efficient insulation. Available as coatings, sheets, and composite layers, TIISA® can be integrated into existing manufacturing processes across industries including construction, energy, transportation, and household appliances.
For household appliances, its nano-porous insulation technology reduces heat transfer and stabilises internal temperatures, lowering energy consumption and lifecycle carbon emissions. Through SOIC, Thermalytica seeks to collaborate with Electrolux to validate and integrate TIISA® into appliance product lines, accelerating commercial adoption and scalability.
Transitry is a Singapore-based agri-climate deep-tech company that helps agricultural businesses turn waste into value. Their platform brings together three tools. A handheld NIR soil probe reads soil health in the field. A digital MRV platform records soil and carbon data on blockchain so it can be trusted. Their enhanced biochar is made from crop residues. Together, they let customers measure, monitor, maximise, and monetise the impact of their land. They work with partners across Singapore, India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan.
They are now going a step further by turning agri waste and CO₂ into specialty carbon nanotubes (CNTs). CNTs are strong, light, and highly conductive. They go into battery materials, thermal management, EMI shielding and lightweight conductors. Most CNTs today are made from fossil-based feedstocks. Transitry makes theirs from carbon that would otherwise be burned or released.
Transitry is backed by Info Edge Ventures, Antler, Plug and Play and Seraphim Space.
Zurich Soft Robotics is an ETH spin-off bringing a climate-adaptive PV system called Solskin to market. Solskin combines renewable energy generation, intelligent shading and architectural expression in one responsive system. Developed through years of research at ETH Zurich, it enables building envelopes to actively contribute to energy performance and occupant comfort.
Solskin uses movable photovoltaic modules that follow the sun, supported by AI-driven controls that balance solar energy generation, daylight, and thermal comfort. Its modular design can be configured vertically or horizontally for new construction and renovation projects, with prefabricated elements supporting efficient installation and integration into different architectural contexts.
By combining solar generation with adaptive shading, Solskin helps reduce building energy demand while supporting occupant comfort and architectural design. Beyond building façades, Solskin can also be deployed as a standalone solar solution for outdoor spaces, including solar trees and pergolas, extending the technology to urban environments.
Solskin has received numerous awards and international recognitions, including the Watt d’Or 2023, Society of Façade Engineering Product of the Year 2025, Swiss Solar Prize 2025, two Architizer A+Product Awards 2026 and the ICONIC AWARDS 2026 “Best of Best.”
Challenge statement: Integrating Next-generation and Cost-effective Solar Technologies
How might we develop cost-effective, safe, and aesthetically integrated solar technologies, such as transparent solar films or kinetic tiles, to expand renewable energy generation within Gardens by the Bay?
NTi Technology Pte Ltd is a pioneering membrane technology company headquartered in Singapore, dedicated to industrial resource recovery, water reuse, and closed-loop circularity. Built on more than 35 years of membrane research led by founder Dr. Ge Hailin, NTi delivers next-generation recycling solutions for the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, and food & beverage sectors. Their proprietary poly-ceramic membranes, manufactured through their own ZLD process, thrive where conventional membranes fail – operating across a pH range of 0 to 14+, temperatures up to 90°C, and exposure to strong acids, alkalis, and solvents.
Their offering rests on two core products. A chemically robust hollow-fibre ultrafiltration membrane strips solids and residues from process streams, while the NTi Membrane Condenser uses low-energy air-bubbling to recapture up to 99% pure solvents, acids, and alkalis, recovering clean water and waste heat. Combined into plug-and-run systems, these enable full zero-liquid-discharge duty.
NTi’s membrane technology enables the conversion of complex, hazardous waste streams into high-purity reusable chemicals at under half the cost of conventional equipment, typically compressing client payback to under one year. To date, NTi has deployed over 50,000m² of membrane area and treated 15 million m³ of process streams across Singapore, China, Taiwan, Australia, and Sweden.
